Mantova launches tubing for electric vehicles

After investing in a unit in Mexico and advancing in the internationalization of the brand last year, Mantova launches an innovative product in 2023 to serve the electric vehicle market, a sector that is experiencing an acceleration phase in Brazil and abroad. It is a tube resistant to hydrolysis, high temperature and chemicals, for use in the battery cooling system, a technology studied and developed in Caxias do Sul.

A few years ago, engineers and technicians from Mantova's Research, Development and Innovation team began to study the electric vehicle market. In Brazil, according to a survey by the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association, the electrified fleet in 2021 reached 77,259 units. In 2022, the number reached 126,504 vehicles. The volume is small and still represents only 2.6% of the total number of cars sold, considering the hybrid models as well.

Initially, the parts will be supplied exclusively to the foreign automotive market in the light and heavy lines, but with the evolution of electric cars in Brazil, the domestic market will also be served. The tubes are produced with raw material supplied through a partnership with a European company. The estimate is that, due to the market potential, the product can bring an increase of up to 10% in the company's revenue.
