Poly(tetrafluoroethylene-co-perfluoropropyl vinyl ether), or simply PFA, is an example of fluoropolymer used in high performance applications that require excellent chemical inertness and thermal stability. It is a fully fluorinated semicrystalline polymer that offers the highest temperature range and the broadest chemical resistance of all melt processable fluoropolymers. The strong fluorine-carbon bonds guarantee chemical stability, which provides the characteristic of high resistance to solvents, acids and bases. The high thermal stability of the fluorine-carbon bond and an excellent chemical resistance of fluoropolymers provide PFA with unique properties. They can offer continuous working temperatures of up to 260°C, with a continuous reduction of mechanical properties depending on the rate of heating.
In contrast to PTFE, which presents voids due to the sintering processing technique, the PFA processed by fusion is intrinsically void free, which results in lower permeation coefficients and greater mechanical resistance.
Service Temperature Range: -80°C to 260°C.
